Enhancing Malaria Vaccine Uptake in High-Burden Areas of Kenya and Uganda
Category: Research, Training
Topic Area: Public Health, Vaccination, Malaria Prevention
Problem
Despite introducing the four-dose malaria vaccine schedule, sustaining uptake across all doses in high-burden areas of Kenya and Uganda remains a challenge. Coverage drops significantly from 75% for the first dose to 41% by the fourth.
Approach
This project proposes a mixed-methods study to explore the relationship between CMDs and SRH outcomes among Kenyan AYPs
.The approach includes:
- Assessing the prevalence and risk factors of CMDs in AYPs.
- Exploring how CMDs influence SRH behaviors and access to services.
- Co-developing and piloting an integrated service delivery model with AYP input.
Potential Impact
This project aims to bridge the gap in mental health and SRH service provision for AYPs, improving health outcomes and reducing risks associated with unaddressed CMDs and SRH challenges. By developing a gender-sensitive, integrated care model, the project will foster better mental and reproductive health, promote safer behaviors, and increase service accessibility for vulnerable young populations in Kenya.
